Ingredients
• 2 slices of hearty white or sourdough bread
• 2 slices of high-quality swiss cheese
• 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (plus extra for optional variations)
• Optional: 2 thin slices of tomato, 1 slice of ham, a pinch of dried basil or oregano
Instructions
- Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Butter one side of each bread slice evenly.
- Place one slice, butter side down, onto the skillet. Add the swiss cheese (and optional tomato or ham) evenly on the bread. Top with the second slice, butter side up.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Flip carefully and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until both sides are crispy and the cheese melts perfectly.
- Remove from heat, let rest for a minute, then slice and serve your scrumptious swiss grilled cheese.
Notes
