Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix bread flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Gradually add warm water and stir until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Shape the Bagels: Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
- Boil the Bagels: In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil bagels for 45-60 seconds per side, then transfer them to a lined baking sheet.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C). Brush bagels with an egg wash if desired and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
